Some plans look reassuring because every number cooperates. Customers pay on time, costs stay flat, and the team gets everything right first time. A base case is useful. Relying on it alone means entering the project without knowing how close success sits to trouble.

In a hypothetical project, expected profit may be acceptable while a two-week delay in collections creates a cash shortfall the company cannot cover. Changing annual sales forecasts alone will not reveal that problem. We need to understand timing and identify which assumptions move the result most.

Sensitivity analysis helps us do that. What if the price falls slightly, fulfillment costs rise, or orders are fewer? We can then build scenarios combining related changes, such as higher demand that requires additional staff. The changes should have reasons behind them. Use defensible ranges and identify what cannot be estimated confidently.

The value of the exercise appears in the next decision: a cash reserve, a deposit requirement, a smaller launch, or a clear stopping condition. It might instead show that the project can withstand enough variation to proceed. Knowing where a plan is vulnerable gives us time to prepare. Optimism is more useful when we understand what could disturb it.

في مشروع افتراضي، قد يكون الربح المتوقع مقبولًا، بينما يؤدي تأخر التحصيل أسبوعين إلى عجز مؤقت لا تستطيع الشركة تغطيته. هنا لا يكفي تغيير رقم المبيعات السنوي. نحتاج رؤية أثر الزمن على النقد، ومعرفة أي افتراض يحرك النتيجة أكثر من غيره.

اختبار الحساسية يتيح هذا الفحص. ماذا يحدث إذا انخفض السعر قليلًا؟ إذا زادت تكلفة التنفيذ؟ إذا كان عدد الطلبات أقل؟ ويمكن بعد ذلك بناء سيناريو يجمع تغيرات مرتبطة، كزيادة الطلب مع الحاجة إلى عمالة إضافية. المهم ألا نغير الأرقام عشوائيًا؛ نختار نطاقات لها سبب، ونذكر ما لا نستطيع تقديره بثقة.

قيمة هذا العمل تظهر في القرار التالي: احتياطي نقدي، أو دفعة مقدمة، أو حجم إطلاق أصغر، أو شرط واضح للإيقاف. وقد يكشف أن المشروع متين بما يكفي للاستمرار. معرفة مواضع ضعف الخطة تعطيني وقتًا للاستعداد. التفاؤل يصبح أكثر نفعًا حين يعرف ما الذي قد يزعجه.
